Identification Codes The vehicle identification number (VIN) is a 17-digit combination of letters and numbers. The VIN is stamped on a metal tab riveted on the instrument panel, top upper left of the dash. The VIN number is also found on the vehicle certification (VC) label. R — 6,001-7,000 pounds with second generation air bags. P — 7,001-8,000 pounds with second generation air bags. D — 5,001-6,000 pounds with first generation air bags. L — 5.4L, 2V, SOHC, EFI, V8, Gas The ninth VIN position is a check digit. The tenth VIN position is the model year code. X — 1999 The eleventh VIN position is the assembly plant code.
L — Michigan Truck (Wayne, Michigan). S — Allen Park (Allen Park, Michigan). C — Ontario Truck (Oakville, Ontario). E — Kentucky Truck (Jefferson County, Kentucky). K — Kansas City (Claycomo, Missouri).
N — Norfolk (Norfolk, Virginia). M — Cuautitlan (Cuautitlan, Mexico) The last six VIN positions are an alphanumeric code for the vehicle build sequence.
This is also the vehicle serial and warranty number. I'm wondering if the lady at the deputy registrar's office copied the VIN number correctly as not much seems to add up. Here's the VIN on my title appl. 1FTRF7W8YNBxxxxx There is no assembly plant that is coded with a 'B'. There is no engine on your list that is an '8'.I can't see how she could have mixed up the 7th and 8th digits and also the 10th and 11th.? I suppose anything is possible. All VIN numbers today have 17 digits, you are only showing 16. You're so right. I hadn't noticed the missing digit.it's no wonder I was confused.

Incredibly the lady at the deputy registrars office didn't. She forgot the 1 that should have been between the F and 7 (1FTRF17.) but even more incredible is that she also put a 5 down on the title application where it should've been a 3. I never thought of copying the old North Dakota title.it could have been wrong on that, and she copied down what she had. I've never seen an issued title that was that far off.??
